David,

I am not aware of any z/OS provided interface to CP when z/OS runs in a virtual machine. We wrote our own code to issue CP commands from a z/OS (MVS) batch job. If you are interested in this approach, I may be able to find the source code for this program and send you a copy.

It’d be nice, wouldn’t it? Next thing you know, though, you’d be asking for JES spool integration, and a ,VM parameter to issue spool file closes at the end of a file, and line-mode consoles, and ... won’t somebody think of the children….

Seriously, it’s gonna be a mod. I wrote the necessary stuff a few years back, but it’s lost as it was a contract item and that system ceased to be about 9 months later.

Does anyone know if there is something built-in to z/OS to permit issue of CP commands when it's running as a guest under z/VM?  I know VSE has the "* CP" command to facilitate this.  Is there something similar in z/OS ... or does this require mods?
