I didn't know you could "print" file to SMTP.  Since it is apparently 
already in BSMTP format, can't you just PUNCH (NOHEADER it to the VM SMTP 
server?

z/OS LPD added the carriage control.  I confirmed by using the same 
options and performing a wireshark trace on my workstation.

Try "RECFMU" instead of "PRINTER".  PRINTER specifically adds a blank for 
carriage control.
