Fibre Channel - long or short wave?

In the midst of ordering and wonder if I need long or short wave channel?
>From the looks of things it seems to boil down to distance and since
the storage device is in the same room as the cpu (< 100 feet) I'm
thinking short wave is sufficient.
But the doc is confusing so I was hoping maybe an expert is watching
and will confirm my suspicions and/or offer advice or maybe other
considerations.
