During the actual dasdfmt run, or during boot?  I don't have problems wit

dasdfmt itself.

The only reason CMS formatting and RESERVE was ever useful was back in th
e
old, dark ages of Linux/390, you needed to do that for the DIAG driver to

pick up the volume and use it.  That hasn't been the case for some time n
ow,
but of course not everyone realizes that and changes their methodology.
