If I wanted a completely self-contained program (no calls to PIPE, Rexx, etc) then I think I'd be tempted to code a sort routine into the program. After all - the entire, "file" to be sorted is in-store, it's not going t o be very large (even a rather inefficient bubble sort should be able to
cope with up to 10K entries without causing the CPU to break into a sweat - and how many typical 191's contain even 1K files?) and doing it myself would give me complete control over the final sequence. Gosh - how many years is it since I last coded a sort routine? (JPH's fault - nowadays it's hard for me to imagine developing a capability that is to run in a VM/CMS environment that wouldn't involve PIPE at some poin t in the proceedings.) Regards Jeff Gribbin
