Mike made a very good point in this statement:

(I have installed a number of systems in the past, so
I can't say if they are appropriate for a first-time installer.)

It would be a good idea if the two one-sheet installation summary cards are intended for the non-VM experienced person who is just opening up the box, to bring in an inexperienced, I.E. non-VM person, to the lab and hand him/her the box and see what they can do. Just grab someone from the next building who is a z/OS or *IX person and see if they can work thru the exercise.

Asking here on the list, you are addressing a readership that is more or less VM-experienced. If those are the intended users of the installation summary, that's fine, but if you are aiming them at the newbie who has been told to get VM up and running, you ought to be checking with that person.

The Court of Opinion and Assizes is now in Session.

Recall that we have two one-sheet (two pages, front & back) tri-fold
installation summary cards: one for tape and one for DVD (1st and 2nd
level).

The questions:

1. Do these cards have value?

Absolutely... I used them exclusively, with virtually no reference to the
full install manual. (I have installed a number of systems in the past, so
I can't say if they are appropriate for a first-time installer.)

2. If they are valuable, are they usable in their current form?

Yes, I like the general content and format, with the exception noted in #3

3. If you could make changes to them, what would they be?

I would separate out the "first level install" from the "second level
install". Either make two separate documents, or make pages 1-2 first
level and pages 3-4 second level, then the user could just print the
page(s) needed. This would also free up some space to allow the use of
larger font.

My interest in "value" ends when the system is up and ready for more
extensive customization and configuration such as that provided by the
Getting Started with Linux book. I'm not trying to change what the word
"installation" means.
