I might agree with the dumps being infrequent, but "too small' is a color of a different horse.

Perhaps a nibble or a byte at a time, or just swallow it whole (on an empty or full stomach)? Would it be regulated by the FDA? (Is it Friday yet? Where's Chuckie?) Dave asks a valid question. Maybe z/VM dumps have been too small, and too infrequent? Our z/OS sysprogs regularly use TERSE on z/OS before FTPing those humongous dumps to z/OS Level 2 support. One would think that z/VM Level 2 (or Boulder?) would want to conserve disk space by having us TERSE the file before sending. Or better yet... a TERSE option on FTP which would permit a single read and single write (through FTP), instead of TERSE reading a big dump, packing it up more completely than "COPYFILE (PACK", writing it to disk, and *then* having FTP read it from disk, write to the net, etc. But there is probably some FTP standard that would be greatly upset by such a capability. Perhaps at one time you had a file that you wanted to send to IBM, and they sent you the VM TERSE module so you could compress it first?
