Is it possible that we already have TERSE?  I thought I recalled using 
DETERSE with a PACK option, but I certainly don't remember where I would 
have gotten the directions to do it.  If you BROWSE or XEDIT the DETERSE 
MODULE, you'll find, in what appears to be a list of options, one that 
is PACKSPACK.  It's at col 6953 of the DETERSE MODULE, dated 5/21/97 on 
my 5.4 system.
