I don't see any problems with Mint Cinnamon.
`/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-3.0/3.0.0/immodules/im-ibus.so`
Is the ibus entry inserted in
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-3.0/3.0.0/immodules.cache ?
strace result should show the location of im-ibus.so.
