Hi,
I am Debian maintainer of ibus and Debian is shipping 1.5.8 based source
for preparation to the next release.
Issue 1740 equivalent was reported to me and I patched Debian source with
attached patch.
The bast solution may be combination of mine with
https://github.com/ibus/ibus/commit/a78c0b8cb379a0799b1a28450af8ee9d07016709
Please note Debian as well as FEDORA now always have C.UTF-8 locale. If
fall back is "" as C, you may not get the right string.
