Joe,

Yes, it's a possibility that you'll need someone to hold the bolt head while
you remove the hardware below.

I will say that having disassembled my Barient. I've Cleaned and Lubed my
winches several times ...AND..
You shouldn't need to worry about getting to the bolt heads under the winch.

Once you remove the "C" clamp, the Drum will LIFT up and off ...and expose the
bolt heads.

A TIP on disassembling winches.. that was going around the internet a few years
ago, has help me a lot.

Use a cardboard box, cut a hole the size of the winch in the bottom.. To Set
over the winch.
Place some cloth (old towel) in the bottom.
With that arrangement you have less a chance of loosing parts to the water
overboard. If they do "get away" they land on the towel at the bottom of the
box.

You won't have to tip the boat over 90 degrees.. LOL

Best,

Ralph

I have to go check out that possibility. I have a traditional (fold down
table) layout. I would imagine the starboard winch mounting in back under
the starboard quarter birth and the port winch Is in the port locker. But
the last time I replaced a winch I needed to hold the bolts on the topside
when I unscrewed the nets below. That would mean disassembling the old (and
new) winches.
