I have the mid-boom traveler and do not go up to the mast and back to
the starboard winch.
Instead have a ratchet block on the traveler.
It does make it a lot easier to handle the mainsheet
Here are some decent pictures.

I have the wheel version. I dont know that I want to put anything else in the
cockpit to work around by moving the traveler forward of the wheel. I do like
the idea Brandon has about putting a block with cam cleat directly on the
traveler. With the righ purchase, you should be able to trim without the winch
since you are cutting out the 3 turning blocks . I look forward to hearing how
his set up works.

Brandon,
I've been thinking along those lines. Do you have a photo of your new
setup, or a parts list you could post?
Thanks; I'm sure this will help Jeff also.

I have the same set-up as you but I haven't had the boat out sailing
yet. Anytime you go through so many turning blocks you add friction
to the system. What you describe does sound excessive though. I
decided to get a 4-1 or 6-1 purchase and just sheet directly from the
traveller. Freeing up my starboard winch and taking the friction out
of the system. SHould make it easier to race and singlehand also.
