I mark every spam  message I receive as spam as opposed to simply deleting it.
I get very few spam now, and I never get spam from the same email address
twice.  So far it is managable, so I do think it helps.

Exactly.  This is supposed to be fun.  Therefore, this will be my only email on
the topic.

I hate.  I mean hate the number of spam I get from every direction.  On
average, I get 5-10 relevant e-mails/day and I get maybe 100+ spam emails.  Any
suggestion that would increase the precentage of relevant emails would be
appreciated.

While I understand the desire to explode this topic into a censorship/constitu
tional law, I am not worried about that on a board dedicated to sailing..  I am
on here to get help and help others with sailing.  If the burden gets too high
I, as I assume others as well, will just drop off the list. If this was a board
dedicated to policital speach I would feel differently, but it isn't.  More
talk about sailing and less about bull would be great.  TO start the ball
rolling, I hereby publically surrender my right to talk about anything other
than sailing on this board.

I don't think that we are looking at censorship or exclusivity on this board.
The only goal behind an approval process for membership is verification that
the individual is actually a person interested in Catalina 27/270s and not a
bot trying to Spam a membership list.

This is not much different from a captcha on a message board - verifying that a
user is a person before a user account is approved.

just my .02 cents worth.

May I say, that starting an " Approval " process for this or any other
communications program, could be standing on a Slippery Slope.

The intrusion of "Unwanted" postings is, at the present time, a small bother
compared to what could result from a "Filtering" of membership.

The exclusion of anyone because of perceived or real "Threats" is, at the
least, a loss of democratic freedom.

I agree that when an individual offends the laws of the society that he/she is
part of, then actions can and should be taken.
But, to have an "approval" required before joining a Public Forum, and by an
"unajudicated" method, to exclude anyone, indeed, raises some questions...

Who decides membership standards?. What criteria will be used for acceptance or
rejection?. Would there be a Hearing process?.
Any exclusion  by an individual(s) ...may abridge many basic rights. Do we
really want that ?

There are many questions that need to be answered, If and before we create an
"Exclusive Club".

While I too am bothered and even angered when my mailbox receives SPAM or an
invitation to Porn,
I am opposed to any form of censorship.

I'm fully against any approach to make this list or any common communications
tool... Exclusive to all but an "Accepted" membership.

The person who posted this message has had their membership revoked and the
message has been removed.

If if have a copy by email please delete it.

We can stop reoccurance by adding an approval step for joing the group.

Should we do that now?
