Code for electrical connections is that they shall be above any  water. The 
leads on the commercial bilge pumps are long. One way is to take the  leads 
out of the bilge in the front, and up the port side into the space under  
the bunk for a water-tight crimp or soldered and covered with liquid rubber  
insulation, for the lead that would go to switches in the rear of the cabin 
and  on to the batteries.  The other way would be out the back of the bilge, 
 also being careful to keep any splices above any incidental  water.
 

A water-tight crimp can be done with the commercial crimping  splices that 
are filled with silicone grease, available at marine equipment  stores. 
 
Remember, the splice should last forever!
