The mounting blocks raise the pump off the floor of the bilge. This in turn increases the overall water level in the bilge. I wanted mine as shallow as possible.

Then you can screw the bilge pump into the block. I drilled two holes over sized holes into the bottom of the bilge and filled them with epoxy. I drilled an installed a stainless thru hull to handle the output. It was a very easy job, very inexpensive and I like the idea of fresh redundant plumbing.
