Michael,

Yes, I changed out to the 10 degree "outtie" stanchions several years ago. Two
on Each side of the boat
Here are the PRO's and CON's as I see it.

PRO:
Ease of passage. ... I have a Dodger and with my bad legs, any moving on deck
was difficult. The Outties allow me a little freedom of movement.
(sort of a PRO)...
Using a Boom Tent, the 10 degree out stanchions.. pull the tent canvas out and
flatter.. Slightly.

CON:
Gets in the way if you Raft Up..... They stick out far enough to Entangle with
other boat's life lines or on bigger boats, their hull.
One would have to carry larger Fenders if you wish to Raft Up a lot.
(Sort of a CON)..
I've found that people have a tendency to Grab the stanchions to "HELP" move or
stop the boat.. MUCH more so than when I had the Straight ones
I think because the 10 degree outties are Sticking out so far, they make a
tempting Target for the Overly Helpful dock walkers..

My recommendation would be to get the Lesser Angled Stanchion... I'd say the
6 degree angle...

You get the more open deck and yet, can Raft Up .

Subject: [IC27A] Stanchions - 10 degrees out

I was considering changing to the stanchions that go out 10 degrees because of
the limited room on the sides, has anyone done this? What are the pros and cons?
I'm also going to put fairleads on the starboard stanchions for the furling
line so that I'm not always having it roll under my feet when I'm trying to get
up on deck. I saw it done on another C27 online and thought it was a great idea
and a simple fix to something that is always a subtle annoyance. The boat I saw
had the fairleads on the outside but I wouldn't do that, I just want to keep
the line off the deck. Any thoughts?
