GOOD CALL Joe - Boats are a liability not an asset - After I sold WIND QUEST I
did some pencil scratchings "cost of ownership"  -  After all the money I put
into it over the years, and the 50% loss between what I paid in 1984 and the
sale price in 2007 - then add in what it would have cost to RENT/Charter a boat
for the same estimated hours of use - I was cash in the bank without counting
the number of therapist visits I would have had to pay for had it not been for
countless hours of peace & quiet on Lake Erie -   I actually came out about 30%
(based on purchase price) ahead after all costs were considered ( including 5
gallons of gas a year and insurance) ...

If you look at the purchase of a boat as a business decision you will
charter and not own. For me, I own a boat because it is part of my passion
for sailing. I get the dollars invested back in the form of pleasure that
comes as I own and sail not when I sell.

Has anybody on this list ever bought a boat, put money in it, sold the boat,
and gotten all that money back? (besides you, Chef Yaz)

Don't cut yourself low! I'm getting ready to sell mine, as well, and I'm
running into this problem. In my area people are asking too little to sell
they're C27's, so I have to lower the price on mine to be "reasonable. " The
problem is I've dumped $10k into it since I bought it, so if I drop down
below that I'm losing money. Go for what you can get, $12k sounds like a
good starting point. If you start lower than that you're not just
short-changing yourself, but others in the area trying to sell they're
boats, too.

Just my $.02.
