I first read about this material back in 2007, it is also called "frozen
smoke". If anyone is curious about it, here is an article.

I checked that out. The brand name of the insoles is Polar Wrap and their site
( polarwrap.com/default.aspx?pid=2&sid=207&show= ) referred me to
stardust.jpl.nasa.gov/photo/aerogel.html.

It's the same stuff in a different form. Advertising shows bare feet on the
insoles standing on a block of dry ice.

For clothing it's been tested from Mt. Everest to Death valley. Might just work
in the galley.

I would doubt you have insoles made out of the stuff. The actual
insulating material is a powder suspended in a felt like product.
