Most times I've found it is much easier to replace than repair. The original
wiring harness on most production boats is installed during assemble,
becomes "buried" and doesn't lend it self to easy repair.

On my '85 (std layout) I came out of the panel, along the hull/deck joint
into the head. Then along the bulkhead/deck joint to the mast step area,
hiding the exposed wires in a product called "Pan-duit" (available at
electronics supply stores). At the same time I also ran an extra 12v pair on
thru the head to the fore peak for a fan along with speaker wires in the
main cabin.

Subject: Re: [IC27A] Wiring for mast lights

On my hull (#5480) the wiring for everything in the mast runs from the
electrical panel (starboard) down the hull, past the fuel tank, into the
engine compartment to the bilge, runs the length of the bilge forward to the
bottom of the compression post, up the compression post, executes sort of an
"s curve" kink below the deck, then out the mast stepping plate. When it
came time to run new cables through the compression post we ended up having
to take the stepping plate off and use a steel fish tape, plus copious
amounts of silicon sealant to reseal everything at the deck. This was for
new instrument wires rather than lights but it was the same path.

Good luck,

David

I recently replaced the lights, wiring harness, and four pin connector on my
mast. I installed the female end of the four pin connector on the wiring
harness at the mast step and the anchor light works, but the steaming/deck
light doesn't. I have power at the fuse box but there is a short somewhere
between the fuse box and the mast step. I tried replacing the electrical
connector for the steaming light at the fuse box but it still didn't work.
Does anyone have experience replacing the wiring between the fuse box and
mast step? I have the wiring diagram and it doesn't look that complicated,
but I thought I'd pick your brains before I dive into it.
