I had a similar concern. I probably only motor less than ten hours per
year and I go for quite a while before I can see any movement on the fuel
gauge. I probably only use about three or four gallons per season. I finally
cut myself a foot-long piece of wooden 1/8-inch dowel rod to "stick" the tank
in order to determine the actual fuel level. I marked the dowel at
one-inch increments with a permanent marker. I remove one of the fuel line
fittings and stick the dowel in the tank. I used a little arithmetic to
calculate
the remaining fuel quantity at 231 cubic inches per gallon. I found that
the gauge has been working just fine. I still stick the tank about once per
season just to make sure that everything is OK with the gauge.
