Having a Crane is fairly important if one sails the Spin a lot.
I've sailed without one for 10 plus years, but flown only occasionally during that time. I've noted NO chafe. As yet.
If you single hand the sail.
I would HIGHLY recommend a Dousing Sock. It takes a lot of the trouble out of hoisting/lowering it when alone.
I made my current Douse Sock, But I would suggest buying one. I've sewed two of them and without a loft it wasn't a fun job.
The next project will be a Soft Box to set on the foredeck, in which to lower and stow the Aysm.
The best of all worlds , IMHO, is a Spinnaker Furler. (I'm working on that one..

Thanks. I have the sail but need to pull down the mast to install a spinny crane. Using jib halyard would allow me to fly it. Now.

An Adjustable line on a block attached to a shackle at the bow.
The line is inside the pulpit and stands about 6 inches above the rail when at it's longest point.

If you do that do you use jib halyard or spinny halyard? And where how do you attach the line for the tack?

Not always,
When SINGLE HANDING... in light winds, I find it easier to control and handle, to bring the Asym sail inside the forestay.
