When you say wants to turn over - is it not spinning or just not starting?

Have you pulled a spark plug to see what condition they are - can tell you a
lot
about what the engine is doing.

I would go to Harbor Freight - or order online. For $9 you can get a mechanical
oil pressure gauge. I put one on mine when the oil pressure gauge was freaking
out - foremost to verify no issues from a lubrication perspective.

If I had to hazard a guess. I am going to say some type of ignition failure
caused a week spark and the plugs fouled out. Are you still running points or
is
it electronic ignition?

Derek.-

Subject: [IC27A] Engine Trouble

After running my engine for a long time last week it just up and died. There
weren't any signs of trouble, no noises, no major temperature issues (it ran
all
day at around 155-160). The only thing that seemed abnormal was the oil gauge
that kept jumping between 0-80. When we finally got towed back into the marina
there was a lot of black soot collected on the starboard side of the transom.
The engine has oil and gas and when I try to start it up it wants to turn over
but can't seem to get there. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Matthew
