phil,

the back of the instrument is sporting a sleek shiny 6" long cable with a 
female RCA connector. the previous wiring connected to the RCA female with a 
male, of course, but the male was of the 2 color, one black and one white, and 
one bare variety for a total of three strands. the transducer has five strands. 
the connection on the male side was not well made so that was my first suspect. 
after cleaning it up it didn't change. then on to the next culprit, a bad 
splice from the transducer to the 3 strand cable. i don't actually understand 
why these splices are there but... what do you suppose i do with the white 
strand? any chance of damaging the head with wire exbeeriments?
