I took it to mean that the reference was to the person who wrote, in the first place, that Icelandics are the only breed who breathes through their mouths. Gosh, there are SO many myths about the Icelandic Ponies! How in the world did all of these things come to be believed?? some are so incredible, some so dubious that you'd think common sense would prevail. Myths / odd statements: [] It's a horse, not a pony. [] It's different than any other horse in the world; it is unique. [] It's the only horse in the world with five gaits. [] It has great feet (but you need to shoe if you ride). [] It outpulls 1.6 times any other horse (or pulls 1.6 times it's own weight). [] It has more intestines than other horses. [] It's naturally gaited (but you don't see it gait at liberty), and to gait with a rider, you have to have shoes, boots, an icelandic saddle, tight noseband, heavy contact, and a whip. [] It can carry a 300 lb man, over all terrain, all day. [] They can carry roughly one-third of their weight. [] It is the fastest horse in the world. [] It needs no special care. [] It is treated with respect and dignity and raised to the highest levels by systematic and ambitious breeding (yet it is called the most useful "servant" and eaten; bred with spavin, raced on ice with disregard to it's health or comfort). [] It is tireless and has efficient movement. [] It has lost it's spookiness and flight response because it has no predators in Iceland. [] They are extremely versatile.
