>>> And just think of the ice balls forming in the tail if the horse was out
in ice and snow!

Maybe, but there are significant parts of the country where snow and ice
aren't a real threat!

Seriously, I've let Holly's tail go uncut for periods and it will flow out
behind her - she's my normal source for hair for making flywhisks. The only
time I've seen her show any evidence of pulling it out is when she's getting
off or on the trailer, and if I wanted her tail long, I wouldn't feel at all
bad about bagging it for travel. She's an outside 24x7 horse, like all my
others. Now, I DO try to remember to trim her tail, but I don't think it's
a huge deal when I forget. And, she's mostly a homebody, so she doesn't get
off and on the trailer very often.

"The greatest enemy of the truth very often is not the lie- deliberate,
contrived and dishonest -- but the myth -- persistent, persuasive and
unrealistic."

"All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." ~ Arthur Schopenhauer
