in Lee Zeiglers book she says hackamores and bosals are not good for
gaited horses. They can bang when the head nods or swings as leverage
for gait, and it might give a gaited horse an aversion....

At the field trial, my Jas who is pacey as heck, would break into
canter when they gaited fast and I let him, cause he has a nice easy
gentle canter and his hard pace is intolerable for me and hard on his
back I'm sure! And at the end, after three hours or so, he was
racking I think! His head was high, it was relatively smooth, and
fast... He does it so rarely... and seemed fine afterward. I let
him choose his gaits cause he has back issues and pace issues... but
I worked a couple of years on breaking up his pace thru natural (slow)
methods and i think if I had not done that he would have only two
gaits, canter and hard pace.
