a lot more reliable than breeding without considering gait. People
who breed specifically for gait know it is an elusive dream. If you
breed the same perfectly gaited studs to the same perfectly gaited
mares you will not get gait all the time. Or you might get a
different gait, say rack outa two parents who foxtrot. I am one of
seven children and none of us walk alike, no two of us.

So people who breed with gait in mind first of all, should be breeding
parents who've been ridden and demonstrated gait under saddle. and
both should have conformation to produce the gait conformation you are
after. And then temperament comes into play. If you were breeding
specifically for flying pace competitors you wouldn't want a parent
that consistently produces lazy low key calm offspring, you would be
looking for those who want to go. And if all the elements are in
place, you can still have the perfect foal and it have perfect gait
conformation and for whatever reason, it not be there.

Thats why its important to breed for gait thru natural means and not
breed horses where gait has been achieved thru any devices, because if
you dont, over time without realizing it you are breeding natural gait
out of the breed!
