I noticed this too. In the one article that repeatedly comes up, the mouse study showed that about 1.2% of mice in the study developed cancer around the microchip site. Considering that the # of cancers in dogs and cats is around 50%, it's not as likely for an animal to get a cancer from a microchip as from too many vaccinations or the crappy diet that many dogs/cats are fed.
