>>> but i only hope we can eventually learn even remotely as much as you have.
It's my obsession - I just feel like I'm beginning to get past the newbie phase. I've had horses for almost 19 years, but I have friends who have had horses all their lives - I'll never catch up with them. I learned a lot about gaits the hard way, through the two other gaited horses for so much of their lives, and their individual gaitednesses are so different. The one I initially though was so easy (Mac) turned out to be the one I should have paid more attention to, while the one I was so exasperated with in the beginning (Holly) turned out to be the one who REALLY was easy, and the one who taught me a lot. It was downright humbling to have been able to read the interactive thoughts of Lee Ziegler while she was active on gaitedhorse list up until just before her death. That was a SMART lady, who had more gaited horse experience than I'll ever be able to gain in my lifetime - and she rode for years with a good classical foundation before she had the accident (at 19?) that led her to gaited horses. I really wish I could have ridden in a clinic with her while she was alive. If you ever get a chance, go see Liz Graves do a clinic, or better still, ride with her. She's amazing - thank goodness we still have her. The loss of Lee was just huge, but it was so timely that she finished the book before her illness - she left quite a legacy with it.
