Hi Janice
Karen said> I guess I read that a little differently from you, Janice. I
took Robyn to mean that maybe rack/tolt might be the easiest to achieve via
manipulation, and that I agree with. I know it is VERY human-manipulated in
Saddlebreds.

Yes that is all I meant.

Janice>>>well maybe she can clarify cause I still am a little confused.
Does
she mean of all the gaits human--manipulated, rack/tolt is easiest to
human-manipulate? or does she mean that rack/tolt is the gait most
human influenced...

If you don't see the gaits very often in the pasture, and actually I have
definitely seen young horses tolt in the pasture but when you start to look
at it frame by frame is it a 1 - 2 support or 2-3? I couldn't swear to it,
being perfectly honest. And yet when the horses are ridden there are
definitely lots of horses rack/tolt - and I have seen horses that when
ridden by one person would be doing more of a saddle rack and yet another
rider can get tolt. That is what I mean by the manipulation and also why I
was interested to know how many TWH actually rack in the pasture.

It could all be a matter of balance and that the weight, posture, saddle etc
of the rider influence the gait.

I have also had horses that when they were young showed tremendous gait in
the pasture and when ridden it was not a strong gait of choice and the
opposite as well. I have had young horses that showed very little gait as
they were growing up and yet it was the first choice when ridden.
