Well, I think Gudmar has sophistication about gait, not thew type
that Judy is referring to.

gudmar knows more about gait than a lot of people, mabye he is not
interested in defining other easy gaits...he concentrates on the 5
gaits Icelandics are supposed to have, any others are seen than less
than the breeding goal. I understand that. Now of course who knows
what he really thinks unless we ask him. But he is off training and
teaching, and not online much I would imagine. But if someone knows
him personally it would be interesting in having an Icelandic Trainer
here to talk with.

I sometimes think of our discussions about gait to be like going to
marriage counseling by yourself.......you can only guess what the
'other side' is thinking or feeling.

I know that if I wanted to do a fox trot, I would buy a fox trotter
who did that gait, I am assuming that is what they are breeding for.

I think that the tolt/rack is so smooth and easy to ride, that
anything other than that is not what Icelandic people are looking to
breed for.....I certainly can not speak for them, but if I breed
Icelandics and kept getting fox trot, I would be disapointed, I could
see thinking of it as a trotty tolt if I had never been exposed to a
whole breed that has that as its signature gait.

I don't know.....this discussion always seems difficult.....I just
think that that Icelandic people have something to offer us and us
them....but thats the way I see a lot of things......there must be a
special meeting place somewhere in between that we could all see the
other side with openess.
