My friend recently purchased back a Peruvian mare ahe
had raised. She was sold as a three year old and is
now back at age 15.
She has been here for less than three weeks, but in
that time has had quite an adventure. Fist she kicked
the trailer on the trip home and is slightly lame.
She was supposed to be bred, but the ultrasound showed
otherwise. She spent a week at the farm separated
(because of the lameness) and then broke through the
fence and spent a week lost in the great outdoors.
She was found on Saturday and is now in a more secure
enclosure with friends, but...
Isadora is depressed. She is now starting to get rain
rot, which we think is caused by the stress of moving.
She plods along and doesn't even seem interested in
food(though she does eat). Has anyone else
experienced this with a new horse? How did you help
them to recover?
