I think I read somewhere that you should have one acre per horse but
in order for horses to be able to live off pasture only and no grain
they should have at least 5 acres per horse. But thats not icelandic
horses surely! My friend Sylvia keeps two horses in a 50' roundpen
with a little shelter at one end. but she camps with them at least
twice a month and rides one of them sometimes 60 miles a day. So they
get their exercise.

They only problem I see with my paddocks is the manure situation. I
haul it out and my husband regularly discs it up but my work schedule
is such that it often gets too dirty I think...

I have about 6 acres pasture and 2 acres paddocks separated into three
sections for my three herds. One herd is jaspar and the two other
walkers, one herd is Fox, huge, but a kind heart and he is the only
one who will put up with his herdmate, curly ray, mini donkey with
attitude who is always picking fights bigger than he can handle, and
then the icelandic herd of two :) When they get turnout you should
see them. They can't wait to run scrap with each other and see their
friends in the other herds. Tivar and stonewall seek each other out
immediately for mutual grooming, curly ray loves to attack nasi and he
loves to egg him on, and fox and Jaspar, genetic first cousins, are
both loners. Traveller is Jaspars shadow...

anyway, thats my herd (s) :)
