I took the article to be written in a sarcastic mode and that Magnus was against the idea that you can beat the attitude out of the horse. I sometimes think much of the nuance of these articles is lost in the translation to English. I know Susan Hodgson, Robyn's sister has been doing some editing of the English translations for Edfaxi and she has found it very difficult to ensure she is not changing the intended meaning of some pieces.
