Judy - please don't take this wrong but you are a very experienced horsewoman and Charm is a very calm young horse so you are probably fine but I don't think it sets a good example to ground drive a horse without a surcingle - it's just dangerous. Those long lines can get tangled around a horses legs so fast you don't know what happened. I think at least a disclaimer with the suggestion to always use a surcingle would be best.
