Judy, one reason I am very conscious of this is because one of our driving club members came to us after breaking her leg in three places by getting caught up in long lines trying to ground drive her horse. She decided she wanted to learn to drive and she figured since her 3-day event horse(ex race horse) had been there and done that, that he would be a good candidate. She tried to ground drive him with no surcingle and she ended up tangled in the lines and she got one break from the initial fall and 2 others while being drug. She said it happened so fast she just couldn't believe it possible. Of course, she started with a totally unsuitable horse but I feel certain if she had used a surcingle, she would have had much less of a disaster.
