*nods* heads are so heavy, i think it helps the horse recover if you can keep your head over his center, and let him have his head to use to regain his balance. i try to redirect my (and my students') instinct to grab something to the mane right over the withers. this also helps me keep my upper body straight, giving me a point to figure my balance against. --vicka
