My friend, who works for the Bureau of Land Management, says that the Kiger
Mustangs are a particular band, isolated near Oregon"s Steens Mountains,
that can be traced by DNA to the original Spanish horses brought to the US
by the explorers. Hers came from the Steens Mountain "pen". part of a
roundup that takes place at some interval - can't remember what it is. I
believe there are breeders raising mustangs in captivity. This is the woman
we bought our STB Twist from: http://hilltopfarm-oregon.com/home
