That's one thing I just don't get. Icelandics have NEVER been
advertised in that way over here, or in any of the ads I've seen from
Europe. Why would people promoting the breed in the US do that???? And
come to that, why would prospective buyers believe them?

Mic

Well Mic I starting researching the breed 9 years ago and I never saw that
written in any of the websites or brochures that I recieved. I saw websites
that addressed these issues, however not one that I looked at for years ever
said never, as some here would have us believe. If a farm did it certainley
was not common 9 years ago.....

Our Icelandics have wonderful feet , and being farriers I could definatley say
that the iceys here on island, well their feet sure hold up better than some
other horse breeds....and yes I know that some of you feel that feet are not
breed specific, however it certainley seems like it is from our experience.

Mabye Icelandic owners take better care of their horse feet by having scheduled
trims every 6-8 weeks and therefore the white line stays in check. Mabye. I
just know that we have far less issues with the icelandics than any of the
other horses we have ever owned.

Sally and I figured that our Icelandics all together we less work than 1 MFT,
TWH, Quarab or QH. Just from a small farm point of view.

DISCLAIMER:
That is our experience and your experience will vary.

We had our MFT colic 3 times....a TWH once and a Quarab once. None of our
Icelandics, which we own far more of. Thank goodness we have a colic rememdy
or those horses would have died. Not to say that they never colic, but from
our experience none on island ever has.....

And foaling...well I think that cetain breeds of horses, cows, goats etc have
more or less trouble with births. Take a dexter for example, they are known
for having easy births, whearas a holstein is known for having poroblems.....I
think sometimes people say that the Icelandic breed in general is more 'hardy',
and I would believe that from my experience.

But to say that they never colic, founder, have birthing issues is someting
else entirely, something that I have not seen.
