skye, you posted recently about bad knees. Do you use EZ ride stirrups?
No, I did try those when I rode western. They did not work for me for some
reason I can not remember. I ended up getting the over sized large and UGLY
plasic stirrups that worked great....plus I got this little piecae of hardware
that kept the stirrup in the correct position.
I use the Icelandic style double s stirrups which work great. I think it is
having the extra space to move my foot around. I don't know, but I like those
stirrups with a good pad. I am sure there are better.
Even today on our ride my left knee was sore...I just strecthed it while we
walked and that helps. We rode today with friends with a Gypsy Vanner, a
Paint, Sally rode a gorgeous black and white pinto Walker, and I rode Baldur.
Because of the Paint, it was a much slower ride than we were used to, but it
was nice. The Paint mare was kinda bitchy. We were stopped on the trail to let
the horses have a nibble of cane grass and glycine, Baldur was happy and
relaxed with a 4 foot piece of cane grass hanging from his lips, when the Paint
mare cut infront of us and hauled off and kicked him. She got air time!
Baldur just kinda rose up and took the full kick in his chest. He did not
rear, jump or anything. Nice guy. We usually do not ride with other people
besides our little clickish Icelandic group.....but wow I was not prepared for
that.
