It's not intended as digs, but to point out that there are many people within this breed don't speak the same language as the known horse color experts across other breeds. That's why I went out and linked to the UC-Davis website. You can find similar information on other research sites though. What they say simply doesn't agree with certain stuff that's repeated in Icelandic circles, specifically on the color list. (Such as the big distinction made in the Icelandic circles between "fading black" as a boring color versus "smoky black" as a cool color - the experts say you typically can't see the difference...? That's just plain odd to me.) When I want to learn, I prefer to go straight to the experts... same reason I'll learn dressage from a Jane Savoie or a good local dressage instructor, and NH from a Dave Seay or a Pat Parelli as opposed to learning either secondhand from someone like Gudmar. UC-Davis is "the source" - or certainly one of "the" sources - to me for basic color genetic information. Karen Thomas, NC
