Icelandic Horses generally have shallow curves at the top and wide curves at 
the bottom.

That does not leave them much room to easily flex or give to the bit.

I think the gal who said "BRED to be ridden with contact... the icey is bred 
for contact riding" was incorrect.  I think it's the opposite; the way they 
are conformed, they are better being allowed on a loose rein, able to carry 
their heads and necks the way that is most natural for them, giving them 
more room for their windpipe to be fully opened for ease of breathing.
