PART-TIME SAILING COACH
2012-2013 Academic Year
Approximate Starting Date:  August 2012

This position will remain open until filled.  Applicants expecting to be

ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA MARITIME ACADEMY (CMA):  The California Maritime
Academy is a specialized campus of the California State University (CSU)
system offering six baccalaureate degrees in, Business Administration,
Global Studies and Maritime Affairs, Facilities Engineering Technology,
Marine Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and Marine
Transportation,. The Academy also offers a Master of Science in
Transportation and Engineering Management degree. The curriculum
includes licensing programs for future merchant marine, coast guard and
naval reserve officers.    The California Maritime Academy, serves a
population of approximately 850 students.  The campus is situated in
Vallejo on the shore of the Carquinez Strait and 30 miles northeast of

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

        Direct all aspects of the intercollegiate sailing programs
competing as a member of the Pacific Coast Sailing Conference racing
FJ's, Lasers as well as Offshore Sailing on Academy's Schumacher 39 and
J-105.  Responsibilities include inside recruiting, all phases of
preparation for competition, including conducting daily practices,
program development, and establishment of a strong academic support
environment. Supervise maintenance of dinghy and offshore fleets.  

QUALIFICATIONS: 
*       Bachelor's Degree preferred
*       Four years successful sailing experience at the collegiate level

*       Five years coaching experience
*       Demonstrated ability to conduct recruitment of student/athletes
or willingness to receive training towards athletic recruitment
*       US Sailing certification or willing to become certified
*       Ability to work collegially and collaboratively as a member of
the faculty; 

SALARY COMPENSATION:  Salary is commensurate with the education,
qualifications and experience of the individual.

        PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:  Interact with students
on individual basis and in group setting; must be capable of performing
a wide variety of coaching activities; incumbent must be capable of
lifting and carrying 50 lbs. in a safe manner; and occasionally work in
excess heat, cold, dampness or dry atmospheric conditions.

ELIGIBILITY TO WORK:  Applicants must provide proof of US citizenship or
authorization to work in the United States within three days from the
date of hire.  Background investigation required prior to employment.
