Who knows whats actually going on with Novell and iFolder.
Well Novell knows, the developers subscribed to this list know but nobody is saying anything. It would be nice to get some word out of Novell about this project but so far nothing. There was a podcast or something a while back when some Novell project manager was telling everybody how cool 3.6 was going to be and how much novell loved the project and he promised there was going to be more communication etc but I guess that was all just marketing hype.
I've yet to find something that could be used as a replacement. If
any one has any >suggestions I'd be really interested. I am trying out powerfolder. It's not the exact same thing but it's close. It's written in java so you can run it under windows if you want. It's less client server and more peer to peer and also supports bittorrent for downloads. So far it seems to work pretty good. Definately more stable then ifolder 3.5 for me. I have also used subversion in a similar manner. It's not automatic but it does have versioning and locking, if you have savvy users you can give it a shot.
I was assuming that OES2 was going to bring ifolder back to life. Given that is sold to customers, and given Novell talk about ifolder in the marketing of that product I was expecting it to have had some time put into it via those development teams.
I think that was Novell's intention. Somehow it didn't work out though. The project is bogged down for some reason and of course we can't possibly know why or how. Maybe if the project was not written in C# or if Novell hadn't signed that stupid patent deal with MS the project could have attracted more developers but that's just speculation.
Anyone from Novell shed any light on when we will ever see a product that can be used in production as an actual strategic piece of technology?
I have asked many many times and the question just seems to be ignored. Maybe the developers are not allowed to say anything? _______________________________________________ ifolder-dev mailing list [email protected] http://forge.novell.com/mailman/listinfo/ifolder-dev
