Hi guys. I asked about this on the linux-il list before, but since it's
becoming somewhat urgent, it's time to act.
The machine that has been hosting ivrix.org.il until now, will cease to
exist in a little over a week. So I'm looking of an alternative machine to
host this domain, together with its ftp site, web site and mailing list.
I've been offered by several companies and university people to host these
things, but the downside to all these offers was a strict limitation on
the number of users which could get write-access to the site.
I thought that it might be best if ivrix.org.il was simply hosted on the
IGLU server: it makes a lot of sense considering the largly-overlapping
interests of the two groups, and because quite a number of people have
(as I understand) full access to the IGLU machine which will help in
doing the long-overdue overhaul of the ivrix.org.il site (Ely Levy and
a few other people are actually thinking of doing that soon).
The entire ivrix.org.il data (including mailing list archives, ftp site and
web site) now takes about 70MB, which I hope will not strain the IGLU disk
space too much.
Does this look a good idea to you?
If so, how do we continue? Who do I contact to get an account on the IGLU
machine, and who do I contact for stuff that will need to be done by the
superuser (such as adding domains to the name server, adding a virtual host
to the web server, etc.)?
I shall be obliged, [1]
Nadav.
[1] I didn't write "thanks in advance" like I normally do, because of
something I recently read in Strunk and White's "The Elements of Style".
They write: "Thanking you in advance. This sounds as if the writer meant,
'It will not be worth my while to write to you again.' In making your
request, write 'Will you please,' or 'I shall be obliged.' Then, later,
if you feel moved to do so, or if the circumstances call for it, write
a letter of acknowledgment."
