from all that I am reading, it sounds like XOO does nothing special to
wine itself, only eases the installation. I'm not a unix newbie so I
thought I could get office to run on the daily WINE I get on debian, but

for? $40 for a bunch of scripts I can do myself
Then why didn't you do them and save everyone $40, or make a million yourself? If you check the CrossOver directories you'll find quite a bit more than just scripts.

sounds a bit steep.
