Hi, I understand your problem (and your friends' problem too). If you just wanted to chat on gtalk network, then probably the best solution is Pidgin. But if you want voice chat, then look for a client on the list given on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jingle_(protocol)<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jingle_%28protocol%29>. If you use KDE, then you might already have Kopete ( >= 0.12 )
