My favourite book is C the complete reference by Herbert Schildt. Its
better to buy his C++ Complete reference whose first ten chapters are
directly from that book (totally about pure C) and also contains
chapters about the library functions. That would be a good buy since
it has everything you need and C++ as well. It always has pride place
on my shelf during programming.
When I had started programming, I also didn't like the Let Us C book.
I had initially done a crash course with Learn C in 24 hours (a cheap
50/- book at that time) followed by Schildt. Don't be misled by the
term complete reference. It makes a great text book in my opinion.
