I've found the Schaum series book (there is a TMH edition also
available) quite good. The first 5 chapters can be digested in about 4-5
days (I mean till arrays - so you should be able to write fairly
complete programs in this period). Pointers takes some time to
appreciate - spend the next 4-5 days on this. The examples are quite
good. Kernighan and Richie's book is quite user-unfriendly: to get to
learn scanf, one has to go to Chapter 7. Kanetkar's book, in my opinion,
isn't too good, either.
