That is the only way. As I mentioned earlier, please put all those
manual installs in ~/installs directory, for example.

Some terminology, please. You are confusing manual installs and distro
package installs. Be clear.

You don't need the sources to remove a distro package, since the
distro package manager will handle it. If you do packaging you will
get to know that distro packagers take upstream project tarballs, and
make a binary package of it, and they keep track of which file is
installed where on the system.

But, when *you* manually install a tarball, it is *your*
responsibility to manage it.

It is not a problem. You just have to learn to use the appropriate
install methods.

What bin package? How? Please be precise and informative when you
write a technical post:

If it is a manual install, then it is your responsibility again to maintain it.

1. You don't even get source code for Windows! You cannot compare
apples and oranges. They are totally two different systems.

2. Read: http://linux.oneandoneis2.org/LNW.htm

You are totally confusing yourself between manual installs and distro
package installs. Remember, if you do something manually, it is *your*
responsibility. Don't blame the system for it.

If you cause an accident by driving on the wrong-side of the road,
don't blame the traffic police.
